Why I Had to Step Outside the Doctors Office to Heal RA Symptoms.

Something I’ve learned from reversing my RA symptoms is this: healing was never going to happen in a doctor’s office.

No disrespect to medical professionals—I truly appreciate the work they do—but I often find myself frustrated with the advice that’s typically offered. So many people I speak to and work with feel the same.

They’re irritated by the lack of alternative options, as if the only path forward is a prescription pad.

Even if you choose the medical route, I believe it's only sensible to complement that treatment with supportive lifestyle changes. These changes often address the root causes of chronic conditions—things that medication alone can't fix.

For me, it started with being brutally honest about my eating habits.I was addicted to sugar for years. I’d skip meals just to "save" calories for sweet snacks so I could maintain my dress size. Nutritious foods were barely part of my routine. I was severely deficient in essential vitamins and minerals, which eventually led to serious gut issues. Looking back, it’s no surprise I ended up with an autoimmune condition.

Then there was stress—constant, unrelenting stress. No one ever told me that elevated stress hormones send inflammation soaring. I internalized everything. And once I was diagnosed with a chronic disease, the emotional pressure only intensified. That added even more inflammation to my system—and still, no one offered guidance on how to ease it.

So how do you complement a medical treatment plan—or, like I did, choose to follow a more holistic path?

Start by eliminating sugar and processed foods. Then focus on eating the right anti-inflammatory foods. I discovered that eating according to my blood type made a dramatic difference. Even “healthy” foods can cause harm if they’re incompatible with your body’s chemistry—they can trigger chronic inflammation without you realising it.

Support your immune system by increasing vitamins and minerals that reduce inflammation. And most importantly, learn how to calm your nervous system. Breathe deeply. Write down what you're grateful for. Visualize yourself at peace. Dance in the kitchen. Walk in nature. Turn off your electronics before bed. Prioritise quality sleep.

Why isn’t this information shared more widely? That’s the question that drives me to keep sharing my story—so others can reclaim their health too, naturally and on their own terms.
